Joe Lauzon Denies Promising Dana White That He’d Retire At UFC Boston
UFC President Dana White said Lauzon promised he would retire after the bout, but Lauzon says no such deal was struck between them.
“When I texted Dana, I told Dana, ‘Look, give me one more shot. If the fight does not go well, I promise you’ll never hear from me about fighting again,’” Lauzon said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show (via Tristen Critchfield of Sherdog). “And he said, ‘Deal.’”
Lauzon has won just three of his last eight under the UFC banner and his win at UFC Boston was the fighter’s first victory in over two years.
The fighter also believes that the UFC is just looking out for his well being in the end.
“They’re looking out for me,” he said. “I definitely understand. But I’m not 100 percent closing the door.”
If Lauzon does decide to hang up the gloves in the near future, it would ends a professional MMA career that began almost sixteen years ago.
