Jim Ross believes Mike Goldberg should have been given a chance to say goodbye.
Goldberg was a commentator for UFC since 1997. He appeared on hundreds of fight cards and three video games. His career with UFC came to a end at UFC 207. A career in broadcasting has given Ross insight into the situation. In his blog, Ross said Goldberg was robbed of a needed moment at the end of his career.
"Sorry to see Mike Goldberg have a 20 year in UFC as their 'voice' and not get so much as a good bye on air plus not having a talk, according to Goldberg, with UFC, top brass before Mike's exit. Why Goldberg wasn't allowed to say goodbye on the air is a head scratcher. It actually means a lot to many broadcasters to be able to bid adios (Of which I can attest.) Nice to see that CBS Sports allowed that to happen during football season for veteran Verne Lunquist," wrote Ross.
Since his departure, Goldberg has said he was shocked to not be continuing his career with UFC. His son expressed negative feelings toward UFC for the way they treated his father. Goldberg would use the word "shattered" to characterize the UFC after the buyout by WME-IMG. The buyout led to firings throughout the company because of redundancies, but Goldberg was simply being replaced.
Ross spent the rest of his blog continuing to praise WWE on the buildup to the Royal Rumble match. He will be in San Antonio for Royal Rumble weekend.
