Jarred Brooks Plans To Derail The Jose “Shorty” Torres Hype-Train at UFC Utica
Jarred Brooks was originally supposed to fight Hector Sandoval at UFC Fight Night Utica, but Sandoval has suffered an injury and Brooks now remains on the card against short notice replacement Jose Torres.
While Brooks knows that he faces some tough opposition next Friday Night, one thing the fighter didn’t expect was the overall craziness that surrounds Torres.
“…at the end of the day though, I see ‘Shorty’ Torres as a future contender and if I can beat that dude right now and if I have a full camp and he doesn’t…I know he’s at American Top Team. I know he’s working out and stuff like that, but man I have never met a whacker person in my life. This dude on social media is straight up like a chick man, it actually didn’t start on a podcast (Torres hounding Brooks on social media), it actually started on Twitter. He hit me up literally like ten minutes after my fight with Eric Shelton, talking stuff. I was like ‘you know what, this kid is actually a pretty good fighter.’ He’s a good fighter, but he is just whack. I see a decent personality out of him from like people that are like 45, but people my age are like ‘this kid is some whacky sh*t,’” says Brooks in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Torres is going to be making his UFC debut in this bout, but Brooks' future opponent is a two division title holder in the Titan Fighting Championships.
The debuting Torres has a lot of hype surrounding him entering UFC Fight Night Utica, but Brooks believes that the two division champion is going to be a future contender.
“I’m not going to say he’s overrated, but he is a future contender, as well as myself. At the same time, he ain’t fought anybody like me. Its ten days notice and he has to cut a sh*t ton of weight, I’m sitting here walking around at 131-132 (pounds). So lets see how this fight unfolds at the end of the day and I think my dog Brutus over here thinks the same,” says Brooks.
UFC Fight Night Utica takes place on Friday, June 1 from the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, New York with Jimmie Rivera and Marlon Moraes headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
