Jacare Souza Upset With Late Stoppage At UFC 230

Ronaldo Souza picked up a third round knockout win over former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman in the co-main event of UFC 230.

Many feel that referee Dan Miragliotta stopped the fight too late and Souza is one of those believers, which is something he visibly displayed to the ref during the fight ending sequence.

“I was pretty upset. The truth is that I’m a big fan of Weidman’s, I follow him on social media. I admire his work and the father that he is. So I was pretty angry when because the referee didn’t stop it any sooner,” Souza said after the event.

Souza dropped Weidman with a right and the former middleweight champion was seemingly out after landing, but Souza had to land a few more strikes before the referee called off the encounter.

The top ranked middle now turns his eyes towards the future, which may include a shot at UFC gold.

“I’m going to wait for my turn now. I’m going to sit out and wait for the champion. Be it Robert Whittaker or Kelvin Gastelum,” says Souza.

Whittaker and Gastelum are expected to fight for the UFC Middleweight Title this February in the main event of UFC 234.
