Jacare Souza Not Waiting For Title Shot

There were a grand total of nine fights at UFC 208 and of those nine fights, only one didn’t go the distance, that fight saw Ronaldo Souza defeat Tim Boetsch by first round submission.

Souza, who has been vocal about getting a title shot for awhile now, will not be waiting around for one to be handed to him.

“I want to fight the champion,” Souza said to MMA Junkie. “But if I have to wait too long, I’d rather take another fight because I wasn’t born to wait for others. I was born to make things happen.”

Souza is a former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion, but would lose the title to Luke Rockhold before the promotion was sold to the UFC.

Speaking of Rockhold, Souza still wants to get his hands on him as well.

“I think a singer sings, a dancer dances and a fighter fights,” Souza said. “We’re here to work and we work for the UFC. The UFC works with fights. I was ready to fight a top contender in November, a former champ, and everyone knows that he chickened out and ran. He’s kicking and training even more than I am. He says he has a knee injury. He doesn’t even know what an injury is. The truth is that he’s chickening out. And man, I’ve got to fight. What I’ve been noticing is that all the athletes who sit out for too long don’t come back well. I went approximately eight months without a fight. I was going to fight a top contender in the division who didn’t show up, who chickened out and ran. So I had to work.”

Souza has only suffered a single defeat under the UFC banner, that loss came to Yoel Romero, who’s expected to challenge for the UFC Middleweight Title later this year.
