Injuries Cause Changes To Bellator 167 Main Event
Pat Curran has suffered an undisclosed injury and he has been pulled from the Bellator 167 main event. He was set to headline against John Teixeira.
A new main event will now headline the show as Patricky Freire will be taking on Derek Campos in a lightweight division rematch, Freire won the first battle Bellator 117.
Freire (16-8-0) is competing for the first time since losing a lightweight title fight to champion Michael Chandler at Bellator MMA: Dynamite II. Freire has won three of six fights since the first meeting with Campos, defeating Saad Awad, Ryan Couture and Edimilson Souza. Freire will be fighting for the fourth time this year, making it the most active year the fight has had since turning pro in 2005.
Campos (17-6-0) will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, which includes a win over UFC veteran Melvin Guillard. Campos has won three of five since the first meeting with Freire, besides Guillard, the other wins came over Estevan Payan and Djamil Chan. Campos has only had one fight go to a decision in the last two-plus years, that decision was a win over the aforementioned Djamil Chan at Bellator 161.
John Teixeira, who was set to headline the card, will stay on the card and he will fight UFC veteran Justin Lawrence, that fight will kick off the main card.
Bellator 167 is taking place on Saturday, December 3 from the Winstar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma with Patricky Freire and Derek Campos headlining.
