Ilima-Lei Macfarlane Wants Bellator To Sign Liz Carmouche

Ilima-Lei Macfarle is defending the Bellator Women’s Flyweight Title against Kate Jackson in the main event of Bellator 236.

Liz Carmouche was recently released by the UFC and Macfarlane would like Bellator MMA to sign her.

“I want her to come to Bellator,” Macfarlane told MMA Junkie. “I want to lose the belt to her. I’m not overlooking (my next fight against) Kate Jackson at all or any of these other girls, but my dream would be to lose the belt to Liz.”

Macfarlane would later take to Twitter to state that she doesn’t want to lose to belt to Carmouche, but wanted to say “if I were to lose the belt.”

The women’s flyweight champion also doesn’t like the way that the UFC handled the release of Carmouche.

“I thought the nature in which (her UFC release) happened was really (expletive), because I think she deserves better,” Macfarlane said. “But I don’t think that her former employer respected her as a fighter or as a person. It’s good. I think it’s ultimately a good thing because Liz deserves to be with a promotion that treats her good. I think this is a new chapter. She’s incredible, she’s done so much for the sport and I’m just excited to see what this next chapter brings her.”

Bellator 236 takes place on Saturday, December 21 from the Neil S. Blaisdel Center in Honolulu, Hawaii with Ilima-Lei Macfarlane and Kate Jackson headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on DAZN.
