Ian McCall Loses Another Opponent; Ray Borg Out Of UFC 203
Ian McCall will have to wait longer to return to The Octagon.
FloCombat revealed Ray Borg was pulled from his fight with McCall on Saturday. Borg cited Illness as his reason for dropping from the fight. With a little less than 3 days notice, McCall finds himself without an opponent and has been removed from the show. This comes off the heels of McCall losing his fight at UFC 201 when Justin Scoggins pulled out due to weight cutting issues.
McCall only fought once in 2015, and has yet to fight in 2016. During the course of that time he was pulled out of two bouts and had two opponents pulled. These unfortunate events derailed Ian McCall’s climb back up to a rematch with Demetrious Johnson. McCall is 0-1-1 against the current flyweight champ, putting him in the same boat as Joseph Benavidez and John Dodson — winless in two fights against the divisional champion. That fighter then seems to stall at the top of the division without being able to earn a third shot at the champion. McCall faced Johnson twice in three round non-title bouts and only lost once.
McCall took to Twitter expressing his disappointment, saying that “Shit happens,” but also that the UFC continued to take care of him, noting to MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani that he was “getting paid great money to have abs.”
UFC 203 takes place this Saturday night from the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
*Update*
Ariel Helwani tweeted Ian McCall wants to fight Neil Seery in Belfast in November.
