Ian McCall Granted Retroactive Exemption For IV Use Before UFC 208

Ian McCall has been granted a retroactive therapeutic exemption by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for IV usage following a canceled fight at UFC 208.

The veteran flyweight was set to fight Jared Brooks at UFC 208, but pulled out of the fight on the day of weigh-ins due to being ill.

McCall would be transported to New York hospital via ambulance on February 10, but while using an IV during the trip administered by medical professionals, used more than the allowable amount of 50mL per six hour rule set by USADA.

It should be noted that the IV contained medically appropriate substances to help an ailing McCall, no illegal substances were given or found in the fighter.

USADA issued the following statement about the exemption given to McCall:

“After a thorough investigation of the circumstances surrounding the potential violation, which included the retroactive TUE application process, USADA determined that the athlete had a diagnosed acute medical condition for which the use of an intravenous infusion is consistent with the standard of care. Because McCall’s TUE application was granted retroactively, his use of a prohibited method will not result in an anti-doping policy violation.”

Several canceled fights and other disasters have kept McCall out of the Octagon since January 2015, the fighter doesn’t have a bout scheduled at the moment.
