Humberto Bandenay Injured, Off UFC Fight Night Sydney
Humberto Bandenay has suffered an undisclosed injury and he is off UFC Fight Night Sydney, where he was supposed to kick off the main card against fellow featherweight Alexander Volkanovski.
MMA Junkie first reported the news of the fighter’s withdraw.
Volkanovski is expected to remain on the card at this time because UFC officials are seeking a new opponent for him to fight. Bandenay himself was an injury replacement for Jeremy Kennedy, who just pulled out of the fight against Volkanovski a short time back.
Volkanovski (15-1-0) is also undefeated thus far in UFC competition, defeating the duo of Yusuke Kasuya and Mizuto Hirota. Volkanovski is also a former Pacific Xtreme Combat Featherweight Champion, which he won by defeating Yusuke Yachi at PXC 50 in December 2015. Volkanovski has only seen three of his sixteen professional MMA fights go the distance and the last one of his fights to do so took place earlier this year at UFC Fight Night 110.
UFC Fight Night Sydney takes place on Saturday, November 18 from the Qudus Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia with Fabricio Werdum and Marcin Tybura headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
