Holly Holm Says Her Father Suffered A Stroke Before UFC 246

Former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Holly Holm defeated Raquel Pennington by unanimous decision in the co-main event of UFC 246.

However, not everything was good for Holm in the lead up to the bout, as her father suffered a stroke a short time before the event.

“My father had a stroke about three and a half week ago,” Holm said at the post-fight press conference (via Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting). “He’s doing great – that’s what we’re pumped about [laughs], but it’s definitely been a balance.”

Roger Holm, who is Holly’s father, is recovering from the stroke and is on the road to a full recovery.

Holm, while caring for her recovering father, has an eye set towards the future and a another possible shot at the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title.

“When I say I want a title shot, it’s whatever path it is to get there,” Holm said. “That’s the goal. When I first started MMA everybody said, ‘What are you doing?,’ and it’s like, well, I wanna be a champion in both boxing and MMA.”

Amanda Nunes, who is a two division champion in the UFC, doesn’t have her next women’s bantamweight title bout lined up at the moment.
