Greg Hardy’s UFC Fight Night Boston Victory Overturned To No Contest Due To Illegal Use Of Inhaler
Greg Hardy wins again.
It wasn’t the most exciting fight on the night, but Greg Hardy picked up a unanimous decision (29-28 x 3) victory over Ben Sosoli at UFC Fight Night Boston. The bout was later overturned to a no contest due to Hardy using an illegal inhaler between rounds. The fight was a rather tepid affair, with larger Hardy using straight punches to combat the wide punches of the shorter Sosoli. The fight was not without controversy as Hardy used an inhaler between the second and third round.
The commentary team of Jon Anik, Dominick Cruz, and Daniel Cormier immediately called attention to Hardy’s inhaler use, believing it to be illegal. UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner called it “completely illegal” on the broadcast.
Greg Hardy being Greg Hardy.
Booted out of the NFL for beating women and generally being a moron, thinks it’s fine to casually use an inhaler between rounds. #UFCBoston pic.twitter.com/rx90g7Zxbe

However, according to Dana White (via Kevin Iole), the Massachusetts Athletic Commission approved Hardy’s inhaler. UFC VP Athlete Health and Performance Jeff Novitzky (also via Iole) added, “Inhaler likely contained Albuterol or Salbutamol. Those drugs are allowed at all times, not to exceed 800 micrograms per 12 hours (each puff is around 90 micrograms).”
Leave Greg alone. He got permission to use it. We know the rules. Thank you very much! #frmfam https://t.co/fazJNPEnww

Not so fast my friends. Marc Ratner (via Iole) stated that the commission did not approve of Hardy’s inhaler. An inspector reportedly said it was OK, but he didn’t have the authority to make that decision. The fight between Hardy and Sosoli has now been ruled a no contest.
Hardy is now 5-1-1 in his professional career, with his only loss coming via disqualification. Sosoli moves to 7-2-2.
