Glover Teixeira Puts Anthony Johnson Loss Behind Him

Glover Teixeira is competing this Saturday Night at UFC 208, where he will be taking on Jared Cannonier on the pay-per-view portion of the card.

Teixeira will be competing for the first time since a 13 second loss to Anthony Johnson, something he had to learn to put behind him.

"It was tough, of course, but we have to deal with this situation,” Teixeira said to MMA Fighting. "Anything can happen in a fight. I’m not the type of guy to think about it too much. Move on, don’t look back. It’s water under the bridge, it’s gone. I have to stay focused and train for my next fight. It was quick, so you can’t know for sure. It was a punch that landed, and it happens. It happened to me. It sucks, but I can’t mourn about it. It’s gone, let’s move on now.”

Teixeira is looking to get another shot at the gold, as he came up short against former champion Jon Jones a few years back. Teixeira is fighting an unheralded opponent in Cannonier, but it’s an opponent that is being taken seriously.

"Jared is a tough athlete,” Teixeira said. "He’s not in the top 10, but I’ve watched his fights before he fought Shawn Jordan. He lost that fight, but he did well in his most recent ones. I’m happy because I’m fighting. We making a living through fights, so I can’t just sit and wait for someone ranked. It doesn't matter, to tell you the truth. I’m used to this, and I’m motivated to fight."

UFC 208 takes place on Saturday, February 8 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York with Holly Holm and Germaine De Randamie headlining.
