Gilbert Burns Wants To Fight Nik Lentz This July

Gilbert Burns hasn’t been seen inside the Octagon since dropping a decision to Michele Prazeres at UFC Fight Night 95.

The Brazilian is looking to return to the Octagon this July, and he has the perfect opponent in mind.

"There's a lot of guys I want to fight, but I understand it needs to make sense. I can't come off a loss and ask for a Top 10 guy. I think Nik Lentz, who also lost his last fight, makes sense. He embraces a grappling match and it makes sense for the both of us and the UFC,” Burns said to Combate.

Lentz hasn’t competed himself since dropping a decision to Islam Makhachev at UFC 208 this past February. A big reason that Burns is behind the fight with Lentz is because he believes that their styles mesh well.

“Our styles match, I think it would be exciting to watch. It's wrestling against jiu-jitsu. We have fair striking, I wouldn't give the advantage to anybody. Sooner or later, the fight will hit the mat, my strong suit. I think I would win and climb a few steps,” says Burns.

As of this writing, the UFC has five events scheduled for July. Those events are the UFC Ultimate Fighter 25 Finale (7/7), UFC 213 (7/8), UFC Fight Night 113 (7/16), UFC On Fox 25 (7/22) and UFC 214 (7/29).
