Gilbert Burns Wants Colby Covington Fight: “He’s The No. 1 Guy On My List”
Gilbert Burns is hoping for a fight against Colby Covington following Burns’ loss to Kamaru Usman at UFC 258.
Burns’ wants to get back into the Octagon soon. He spoke with Damon Martin of MMAFighting and outlined many possible bouts for his return. At the top of that list is no. 1 ranked “Chaos” Covington. “Durinho” is not picky. If he can’t fight Covington, he suggested two other bouts that interest him as he looks to stay active against the top ten of the welterweight rankings.
“He’s the number one guy on my list,” Burns says of a potential fight against Covington. “If he’s not available then Wonderboy. If he’s not available then Michael Chiesa… I just want to get back in there.”
He notes a 45-day medical suspension, so once that clears he is ready for a bout to happen around May.
Burns is ready for a long road to another title shot if neccessary: “Whatever it takes. You know I hope one or two put me there but if not three or four or five, i don’t care. I’ll do whatever is neccessary to get a rematch again.”
Despite his third round TKO loss to Usman, he is still confident about the chance of a potential rematch.
“I’m gonna do the rematch soon. Sooner than later. I know I can beat any one of these guys in the top five. I will beat these guys and i’m gonna fight Kamaru again.”
