Gabriel Gonzaga Not Fighting For Less Than 6 Figures
Gabriel Gonzaga is one of the longest tenured heavyweights to ever compete in the UFC, fighting a total of 22 fights in the promotion over the course of 9 years. According to Gonzaga, he's done unless he gets a huge offer
Recently, Gonzaga spoke with MMA Fighting and said that he has interests outside if fighting. The former UFC title challenger wouldn't rule out fighting, but said it isn't likely.
“I don’t plan on coming back. I’m taking care of my new gym, Squared BJJ. If I get an offer, it has to be a great offer, or I’ll keep competing in jiu-jitsu against people my age. I’m probably retired already. I will only fight again if there’s a good offer, financially speaking, and I don’t think any promotion wants me” said Gonzaga.
Gonzaga also spoke about how much money it would take to get him to fight again — a lot of money.
“I don’t fight for less than $100,000. I’m 37 years old and I won’t risk my health or waste my time training and suffering for this. I don’t need it anymore. God gave me a good opportunity in life, and I don’t need this anymore. That would be my number. For less than 100 thousand, I wouldn’t step into a ring anymore.”
Gonzaga’s last fight thus far as a pro came at UFC Fight Night: Dos Santos vs. Rothwell, where he was knocked out by Derrick Lewis in the second round of their co-main event bout. Gonzaga is best known for his 2007 upset of Mirko Cro Cop.
