Frankie Edgar Wants Another Shot At The UFC Featherweight Title

Former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar picked up a unanimous decision victory over Cub Swanson in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night Atlantic City.

Edgar has twice before challenged for the UFC Featherweight Title, but now wants a third opportunity at the gold.

“I’d like to see what happens with that (Holloway vs. Ortega at UFC 226),” Edgar told MMA Junkie. “I would love the winner of that fight. I was supposed to get the title shot, and obviously, we know what happened. But I’m No. 3 in the world, and those guys are ahead of me.”

The former lightweight champion was supposed to get a title shot against Max Holloway at UFC 222, but the champion pulled out of the fight due to injury and Edgar would suffer a first round knockout loss to late replacement Brian Ortega.

One big goal that Edgar accomplished at UFC Fight Night Atlantic City was to silence the doubters.

“I get it why people (question my chin),” he said. “You look at past people that have done it before, and maybe it didn’t go their way. But like I said, I think I’m just different. I took some good shots in there. Cub can crack, and I didn’t get phased by any of his punches, so I think I shut the doubters down once again.”

Frankie had previously challenged for the UFC Featherweight Title in a losing effort to then champion Jose Aldo at UFC 156, but would then lose an interim title bout to Aldo at UFC 200.
