Count Frank Trigg among the people that thought Paulie Malignaggi was knocked down by Conor McGregor during their sparring session.
Trigg was on the "Holy Smokes MMA Podcast" and said Malignaggi got knocked down in the video released that saw Malignaggi on the canvas. Trigg did say the knockdown was justified as Conor has been training while Malignaggi is retired and flew in to Las Vegas shortly before sparring with McGregor.
"He got knocked down, that's what happened. Conor is a younger, up to speed fighter and Paulie's been retired. His skill set is not up to par, but he got knocked down which happens al the time. What's weird for me is that Paulie has been going to the talk shows trying to say that's not what really happened. It's Conor's camp, it's Conor's guys. They're going to edit (the videos) and send them out however they want. You signed up for when you walked into the door," Trigg said.
As far as the actual fight between McGregor and Floyd Mayweather on August 26 is concerned, Trigg thinks the fight is completely ridiculous, but that he will still tune in because of unique the circumstances are.
"To me, this is really the dumbest fight ever. I don't understand why the Nevada State Athletic Commission signed for this fight. I don't know why they're allowing a guy who is 49-0 and is probably the greatest boxer of all time go up against a guy who has never boxed a professional boxing fight in his life. It makes no sense. It's the dumbest fight, but man I am on board. Paulie is making it even more enjoyable. It is the gift that keeps on giving," Trigg said.
