Former UFC Star Headlines Bellator 171

A catchweight division bout is going to be headlining this month’s Bellator 171 bout as Melvin Guillard will be in action against Chidi Njokuani.

Guillard (30-16-2) is currently winless thus far under the Bellator MMA banner, dropping fights to Brandon Girtz and Derek Campos, while fighting David Rickels to a no contest. Guillard spent a grand total of nine years in the UFC, with some notable wins coming over Marcus Davis, Dennis Siver, Gleison Tibau, Jeremy Stephens and Evan Dunham. Guillard hasn’t earned a victory in well over two years, that last win came over Gesias Cavalcante at the World Series Of Fighting 11.

Njokuani (16-4-0) is currently undefeated in Bellator MMA competition, with a trio of victories coming over Ricky Rainey, Thiago Goncalves and Andre Fialho. Njokuani is also a former Resurrection Fighting Alliance, Supreme Warrior MMA and Tachi Palace Fights Welterweight Champion, he defeated both Gilbert Smith, Andrew Moncriefe and Max Griffin to win those respective championships. Njokuani is the brother of UFC veteran Anthony Njokuani, Chidi will enter the fight on a six fight winning streak.

Bellator 171 takes place on Friday, January 27 from the Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kansas with Melvin Guillard and Chidi Njokuani headlining.
