Former Light Heavyweight Champion Set For Bellator 179

A light heavyweight division attraction has been added to the forthcoming Bellator 179 that will be seeing Liam McGeary pitted up against Linton Vassell.

McGeary (12-1-0 has won one fight since losing the Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Title, that win came over late replacement Brett McDermott at Bellator 173. McGeary won the light heavyweight title by defeating Emmanuel Newton by decision at Bellator 134, he would defend the gold once  against Tito Ortiz before losing it to Phil Davis by decision at Bellator 163. McGeary has spent almost four years competing in Bellator MMA, earning a grand total of 9 wins during that time in the promotion.

Vassell (17-5-0-1NC) enters the fight on a two fight winning streak, defeating former light heavyweight champion Emmanuel Newton and UFC veteran Francis Carmont. Vassell has previously competed for the Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Title, losing to then champion Emmanuel Newton in their first meeting at Bellator 130. Vassell has fought at a Bellator MMA event in London before, defeating UFC veteran Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou at Bellator 134.

Bellator 179 takes place on Friday, May 19 from the SSE Arena in London, England with Paul Daley and Rory MacDonald headlining, the main card will be airing on Spike TV.
