Former Invicta FC Champ & UFC Title Challenger Felicia Spencer Announces Retirement
Former Invicta FC women’s featherweight champion and UFC women’s featherweight title challenger, Felicia Spencer, has announced her retirement from the sport of MMA.
Spencer gave the following statement to Fight Banana’s David Van Auken to make her retirement official. The 31-year old Montreal, Quebec, Canada native walks away from the sport with a 9-3 professional record and having a resume filled with fights against the likes of current two-division UFC champion Amanda Nunes, current Bellator women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg, Megan Anderson, Norma Dumont, and Pam Sorenson. Her last Octagon appearance was at last month’s UFC Vegas 42 event where Spencer defeated Leah Letson via a third-round TKO.
“I have decided to stop pursuing this opportunity and have no intention to continue fighting,” Spencer said. “I felt as good as I’ve ever been in my last fight, and know I could have more great performances, but after 18 fights, including a few “wars,” I know in my heart for my future mental health that I shouldn’t be in more of those wars. In the fight game that isn’t guaranteed, and I’ve shown myself that I won’t give up in the cage, so I need to protect myself by just not stepping in there. I’m thinking about myself and my family 25 years from now. Mental health is an important consideration in my family.”
