UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor suffered a tenth round TKO loss to Floyd Mayweather in his professional boxing debut this past August.
The victorious Mayweather has now come forward to say he carried McGregor throughout the fight to make it more entertaining for the fans.
“Everybody tried to protest the Mayweather-McGregor fight, right? But I’m gonna tell y’all the truth, I’m gonna tell y’all the truth. You know I carried McGregor. You know I made it look good for y’all,” Mayweather said to Fight Hype.
McGregor has not yet responded to the claims made by the now retired Mayweather, but has stated in the past that he would like another shot at the boxing great.
Leading up to the encounter in Las Vegas, it was Mayweather who took a plethora of shots at McGregor about his lack of boxing experience and how the lightweight champion gasses out in many of his bouts. McGregor was visibly gassed in the later rounds of the fight with Mayweather, something the Irishman admitted after the bout.
While Mayweather is now retired for a second time, the UFC Lightweight Champion’s future is in doubt because UFC President Dana White recently stated that he doesn’t know if McGregor will ever fight again.
