Firas Zahabi is the coach of former two division UFC champion Georges St. Pierre, who was last seen in action this past November at UFC 217.
While GSP’s next Octagon appearance is not set at this time, one thing Zahabi would like to see is the former two division champion boxer Floyd Mayweather.
“I want Georges to fight Mayweather,” Zahabi said on The Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show. “I keep bothering Georges, ‘You fight Mayweather. You fight him.’ He’s like, ‘It’s crazy.’ I know it’s crazy.”
A now retired Mayweather has already boxed a big name UFC fighter, as he defeated former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor in what was dubbed “The Money Fight.”
There would be a pretty big weight discrepancy between GSP and Mayweather if the fight would happen, but Zahabi has a solution for that.
“They’ll fight at a catchweight,” Zahabi said. “Do you think Mayweather is worried that he’s going to be concussed? He’s fought all the top punchers in the world. He’s just going to have to worry about Georges’ volume and reach, but he can handle himself, and Georges can handle himself. But the whole world is going to tune into that one.”
Mayweather has yet to announce his next move since retiring from boxing, although he did tease a jump to MMA in the last few months.
