Firas Zahabi Says Georges St. Pierre Will Return For Epic Fights
Firas Zahabi is the coach of former UFC Welterweight and former UFC Middleweight Champion Georges St. Pierre, and has some insight on the legend's future.
GSP is currently taking time off to deal with ulcerative colitis, but his coach says the former multi-division champion will return to compete in some epic fights.
“I think Georges is gonna get better, get back in the gym,” said Zahabi to TSN. “He’s gonna feel his body out and see what he wants, what’s the most interesting, epic fight out there. Mayweather? McGregor? We need a mega-fight. Georges will come back for a big, exciting fight.”
St. Pierre just returned after a four-plus year absence to defeat Michael Bisping in the main event of UFC 217 to win the UFC Middleweight Title, but the fighter would give up the title a short time later.
The former champion has received a lot of criticism for relinquishing the middleweight strap, but Zahabi says the critics are all wrong about him.
“I always tell people, if you’re criticizing Georges, do what he did,” Zahabi said. “Do what he did first, then criticize him. It’s not easy to do what he did. He defended the title over and over again. Lots of guys had their chance. Lots of guys had their chance. Get in line, make their way the way he did it. And when he did it he never complained about nobody. He did it without complaining about anybody.”
Since GSP relinquished the middleweight strap, UFC Interim Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker has become the undisputed UFC Middleweight Champion.
