Fighter Tells Story About Sage Northcutt Being Naive During Home Invasion

At 20 years old, nobody expects Sage Northcutt to be too seasoned inside or outside of the cage.

Admittedly sheltered, the UFC fighter competed four times in his first nine months in the UFC. During that period, Northcutt captured the affection — and ire — of fans alike. Many criticized him for his lack of experience, as he landed in the UFC after being discovered on Dana White's Lookin' For A Fight show.

Former UFC fighter Din Thomas admitted to being one of Northcutt's detractors before training with him. However, Thomas joked that maybe Northcutt is a little too wholesome for his own good when he recalled a story.

“He don’t have a bad bone in his body. We was training, right? We came back, it was night time – And we in Milwaukee, and Milwaukee’s not the best city and we came back and our door was wide open so we thought we was getting robbed … so we were like “uh-oh,” we were on alert, we’re not going to go in the house, " Thomas said on a recent UFC Unfiltered Podcast.

According to Thomas, Northcutt was ready to enter the home, oblivious to the idea that anything could be awry.

"Sage wanted to go in the house, he was like “Hey, let’s just go in there and see what they’re doing, and see what they’re up to,” and we was like “HELL NAW.” So we called the cops and we were like, “Sage you talk to them,” because you know what I’m saying, because we black and we ain’t trying to get shot. And it turned out everything was good, but you know, you had to see Sage, it like never crossed his mind that there was like danger involved in the entire situation. And I was like, this kid has been so in a bubble all his life, he don’t realize that there’s danger in the world," said Thomas.

Northcutt will compete against Mickey Gall on December 17 at UFC on Fox 22 from Sacramento, California.
