Fight-size Daily Update: Jon Jones, Sage Northcutt Calls Loss A Fluke, Rampage Wants Fedor, More
-Dave Doyle of MMAFighting.com has an article up about interim UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones’ changes to his training regimen ahead of UFC 200 (before he was pulled). Jones said that he laid off of the weightlifting for the fight, as he says it played a factor in him fighting in a much more conservative manner against Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 197.
– UFC youngster Sage Northcutt fights this Saturday at UFC 200, and on last week’s MMA Hour, Northcutt pointed the finger at a rough case of strep throat for the reason he lost to Bryan Barberena at UFC on Fox 18. UFC President Dana White previously said that the company probably shouldn’t have let Northcutt fight. Northcutt went as far as to call it a “fluke.”
– Quinton “Rampage” Jackson mentioned on the MMA Hour that he’s interested in fights with Fedor Emelianenko, Matt Mitrione and even The Ultimate Fighter Season 10’s Darrill Schoonover. It would appear as if Jackson doesn’t have much interest in cutting down to 205 pounds again.
– UFC 200’s Jim Miller told MMA Junkie that he briefly considered retirement, with 200 possibly being his last fight. However, Miller changed his mind due to the way that he felt throughout his fight camp for Takanori Gomi.
– Thibault Gouti (11-2) vs. Chad Laprise (10-2) has been added to UFC on Fox 21 on August 27 from Vancouver, Canada.
– Karim Zidan of Bloody Elbow has a fascinating piece titled “The troubling trend of murdered Dagestani athletes and the gangster politicians behind them.” Pretty self explanatory and an excellent read.
