Fight Result Overturned & Fighter Fined At Fight Nights Global 73
The Russia-based Fight Nights Global ran an event last Monday (9/4) and it featured a pair of controversial moments.
UFC veteran Diego Brandao was involved in one of those controversial moments, hopping over the cage wall midway through his bout with Akhmet Aliev at FNG 73.
FNG promoter Artem Hallanov has announced that the UFC veteran is going to be fined 30% of his purse for “not sporting behavior.” It is unclear just how much that fine is going to be for the fighter, because the FNG promotion doesn’t publicly release fighter payouts.
This is according to a report from Vestnik MMA.
Another controversial moment at the same event saw former World Series Of Fighting Welterweight Champion Rousimar Palhares suffer a controversial decision loss to Shamil Amirov.
After some discussion, the Russian MMA Federation, which is similar to the athletic commissions that oversee UFC events in the United States, has announced the result of the fight has been overturned to a draw.
Vestnik MMA also was the first to report this.
Alex Davis, the manager of Palhares, issued the following statement to MMA Fighting about the situation.
“They changed it to a draw,” said Davis. “I want to congratulate Fight Nights Global for being fair."
It is unknown at this time when the two fighters will return to the promotion or of they will rematch the two opponents they fought the controversial fights against.
