EXCLUSIVE: UFC Fighter Was In Talks To Wrestle Kurt Angle

A pro wrestling match between UFC middleweight Elias Theodorou and former wrestling world champion and Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle nearly happened. That, at least, was the news Theodorou broke on the latest episode of his Fightful.com podcast.

On Tuesday's episode, co-hosted by Showdown Joe, Theodorou said there had been negotiations about him taking on Angle on an independent wrestling event, which Theodorou described as "one of the regional circuits."

"There were talks, there were early talks of taking on Kurt Angle in one of the regional circuits," Theodorou said, clarifying the discussions as “very preliminary."

Theodorou gave no clarification as to what promotion he was in talks with, or when the match had been discussed to happen.

"I was talking to an individual that had the opportunity to basically set it up," Theodorou said. "At least that was the talks. Instead of myself, they went a different direction, I believe.

Angle made his return to WWE earlier this year and was the headliner in the 2017 class for the WWE Hall of Fame. On Monday, he was named the new Raw general manager.

As for Theodorou, who holds a 13-1 record as a pro MMA fighter, he continues to await the announcement of his next bout.

Angle is the only pro wrestler to have separate reigns as WWE, WCW, TNA and IWGP champion, and also held the WWE World Heavyweight Title.
