Exclusive: Sean Pierson Says He Would Not Pay To Watch Bellator Tournament

Sean Pierson is not impressed with Bellator's Heavyweight tournament.

Last week, Bellator MMA announced a Heavyweight tournament to determine the new Bellator Heavyweight Champion. On Fightful MMA's podcast Holy Smokes, UFC Veteran Sean Pierson told "Showdown Joe" Ferraro his opinion on the tournament. Pierson said the tournament lacks current heavyweight contenders.

"I'll watch it if it's free. I'm not going to pay for it. It just reminds me of those video games where you get to play as Wayne Gretzky in his prime. That's what this is to me. Let's bring back guys who are well past their prime and try to make an extra buck," said Pierson

The field of the tournament consists of names like Quinton Jackson, Fedor Emelianenko, and Light Heavyweight champion Ryan Bader. Pierson noted some of the fighters do not belong in the heavyweight division and he argued that a tournament like this would not make him a Bellator customer.

"So, a bunch of 205ers, guys who should be 205, and bunch of guys that should be retired fighting in a tournament. I'm not going to say it won't be entertaining," said Pierson "It's a bunch of fights with a bunch of old guys. I'm not saying I won't see any of it. If it's free on tv, I'll watch things. But if I had to pay for something like this, Bellator wouldn't be getting my dollar," he continued.

Pierson went on to say he would pay for a Bellator pay-per-view if the top of their divisions were competing in fights like a bout featuring fighters like Rory MacDonald.

Also during the interview, Pierson discussed Georges St-Pierre's next fight and Conor McGregor's antics at Bellator's show in Dublin, Ireland.

Holy Smokes airs Tuesdays at 3 pm at FightfulPods.com.
