Exclusive: Matt Frevola Talks UFC Debut Jan. 14 Against Polo Reyes
Matt Frevola has never tasted defeat in his MMA career, and faces the challenge of a four-fight UFC veteran in his UFC debut.
Frevola experienced the benefit of being in front of Dana White himself during 2017's Contender Series, where he picked up a big victory. However, not all victors on Dana White's Contender Series end up gaining UFC contracts. Frevola, however, told Fightful.com's James Lynch that he was confident that he'd earned the deal with his win.
"I definitely knew I had it. I was the featured bout, taking out an undefeated guy like that. I was pretty confident I'd get the contract. Right after the fight they rushed me over to get the interview, after the interview rushed me to the back room where everyone was sitting and waiting," Frevola said.
Despite a six fight career, Frevola has competed on UFC Fight Pass for Contender Series and Titan FC, and also fought for WSOF and RFA early on. He's making his UFC debut, but it's happening about a month after he'd have liked, and against someone with twice his experience.
"We told them we'd be ready in December, so I was hoping I'd get on a December card. I started to see these filling up. Eventually we got the call for January 14th. I trained like I was fighting in December. I think it's a great matchup for me. I know he was on TUF Latin America. I know he has that tough, Mexican style. I know I'm going to hit him, I know I'm going to hurt him, and I know I'm going to finish him," said Frevola. "Round One."
Frevola also let Fightful know he wants to compete four times next year.
In the full interview, Matt Frevola (6-0) discusses his upcoming UFC debut against Polo Reyes (7-4) at UFC Fight Night 124 on Jan. 13. Matt also talks about earning his UFC contract on the Contender Series, his training camp for this matchup and why he wants to be extremely active next year.
