EXCLUSIVE: Lex McMahon Hopes McGregor Is Punished For Bellator Incident
Lex McMahon thinks that no one in mixed martial arts, not even a mega-star like Conor McGregor, should be immune to consequences for bad behavior.
The Titan FC COO discussed his thoughts on McGregor's altercation at Bellator 187 and much more during an exclusive interview with Fightful.com.
"At the end of the day this is a profession and I think, no matter who you are and what you do, no matter how many tickets and pay-per-views you sell, you still have to conduct yourself as a professional," McMahon told Fightful. "We have standards in this industry and we have to hold everybody, even our highest stars, to those standards. If we let the biggest stars slide on those standards, then everybody else will as well. I hope he's punished for it and faces the consequences. He's a great guy, great for the sport, bad decision."
McGregor also gave his take on the current turmoil involving Colby Covington, who has been a magnet for controversy since he referred to Brazilians as "filthy animals" during an interview.
"It's an interesting situation, man," McMahon said. "Disparaging a country and its people, that's never the right route to go. And a lot of your teammates are from that country, that could be a problem, so maybe not the smartest thing to do. People talk; they try to hype things up and hype themselves into a position but let's be honest, man, not everybody's Conor. Not everybody knows how to play that game well and when you don't know how to play it well, you come off looking like an a—hole and unfortunately I think that's where Cody's at right now."
Titan FC is back in action tonight at Titan FC 46 with a card topped by Jose Torres defending the Titan bantamweight title against Gleidson DeJesus.
"The kid's on fire," McMahon said of Torres. "He got called up actually three times to go to the UFC over the course of the summer. He was still injured; [it's] our fortune because he gets to fight for us one more time, we'll see how it goes. Gleidson's a tough opponent, incredibly athletic, he's longer, got bigger reach, he's a bigger guy, that capoeira style is super exciting and he's hungry, man. When I talked to him he said, I've been training for this very fight for 11 months. It's going to be exciting to see."
McMahon also told Fightful not to sleep on the co-main event, a Titan lightweight title tilt between Raush Manfio and Chazz Walton.
"He's an exciting guy out of American Top Team," McMahon said. "He looks like a baby Vitor Belfort, to be honest, especially rocking the mohawk. He's fighting Chazz Walton, who's 5-0 [and] a big prospect out of Georgia."
Titan FC 46 is taking place in Pembroke Pines, FL, and is airing live on UFC Fight Pass starting at 7 p.m. Eastern.
