EXCLUSIVE: Frank Trigg Says “GSP Versus A Twinkie” Out Sells Bisping And Romero

Trigg understands why George St-Pierre is getting a Middleweight title fight, but does not like it.

UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping has been connected to a potential fight with St-Pierre for months. In that time, he also entered a feud with Yoel Romero because Romero has been upset about St-Pierre getting a title shot over the Middleweight number one contender. On Wednesday, Bisping made a statement saying he was tired of waiting on St-Pierre and would fight Romero if St-Pierre did not get into the cage with him by July.  On Fightful MMA's podcast, Frank Trigg gave his opinion on rather Bisping has the influence to give an ultimatum. Trigg explained why St-Pierre has more influence but why he does not like it in this particular situation.

"Well he does have some say because the weight class is being hamstrung. It's what really irritates me about the UFC right now. I get they have fights that make sense from a business stand point. GSP versus a twinkie makes better business sense than Michael Bisping against Yoel Romero. GSP's fight is going to sell. A lot more money, a lot more seats, a lot more eyeballs. It's a much better fight from a business stand point for UFC," said Trigg."But that being said, Bisping is the champ right now and the weight class got held up when he defended his title against (Dan) Henderson, they brought in a guy ranked like tenth or ninth or something at the time and he jumps over everybody to fight him in that title defense. They are holding back the weight class, guys have worked their asses off," he continued.

Trigg went on to say it is not fair to put the weight class on hold for such a long time. He said emerging fighter associations are pushing the idea of using the rankings to determine the championship bouts. Other topics covered by this episode were the purpose of rankings in today's UFC and the lack of promotion of some of UFC's champions.

Trigg appears on Fightful MMA's podcast each Thursday to discuss the current trending topics of mixed-martial-arts.
