Eddie Alvarez Hoping For ONE Championship Card “Somewhere In The U.S.” This Year

Eddie Alvarez and ONE Championship have discussed a potential ONE Championship card in the U.S. sooner than later.

Alvarez (30-7) caught up with Fightful and offered an update on his fight status. Alvarez has not competed since August 2019 and two planned fights against Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev have fallen through, most recently due to the ongoing pandemic.

“I’m trying to get an update this week. Borders get closed in Asia and all over the world. It’s very uncertain as to what is going to happen and there is not a lot of predictability in it. All I’m hearing is for me to be ready. I would like to be ready sometime in November and, hopefully, somewhere here in the United States,” Alvarez shared. “I don’t think Americans can still fly internationally. I’m hoping we can make something work out, get creative and get a card here somewhere in the United States.”

When asked if there was a conversation between Alvarez and ONE Championship about an upcoming U.S. event, Alvarez replied, “Yes.”

Alvarez has long used “Victory” by Puff Daddy, Notorious B.I.G. and Busta Rhymes. The multi-promotion champion shared his enjoyment for the aptly-named track.

“‘Victory’ sums it up. There is so much leaning on your shoulders when you’re going into a fight. You put your heart and soul into it, you put your family aside. You get so one-track-minded. It all comes to one night and one victory. The song gives me chills every time. It’s what it’s all about,” he shared. “It’s East Coast too. Gotta go Biggie.”

Alvarez is coming off his first ONE Championship win and eyes an eventual lightweight title fight against Christian Lee.
