Dustin Poirier vs. Justin Gaethje Headlining UFC On Fox 29
A lightweight division battle is headlining UFC On Fox 29 as #5 Justin Gaethje faces #6 Dustin Poirier, UFC confirmed the news Friday.
Gaethje (18-1-0) is looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to former UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez at UFC 218. Gaethje is a former WSOF Lightweight Champion and he was the only lightweight title holder in the promotion’s history. Gaethje had an undefeated streak that had lasted over six years before the loss to Alvarez at UFC 218.
Poirier (22-5-0-1NC) enters the bout having won two of his last three, with those two wins coming over Anthony Pettis and Jim Miller. Poirier has suffered a total of four losses under the UFC banner, with one of them coming to UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor at UFC 178. Poirier does share a common opponent with Gaethje in the form of Eddie Alvarez, whom Poirier fought to a no contest at UFC 211.
