Dustin Poirier On Tony Ferguson Fight: “I Don’t Have A Contract Yet”

Reports have started surfacing stating that former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier and former UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson could meet this October at UFC 254.

There is an apparent hitch to that plan, as Poirier says he has yet to receive an official offer to fight Ferguson.

“I don’t have a contract yet,” Poirier said on the UFC Unfiltered podcast (via Jed Meshew of MMA Fighting). “I saw Dana talking about it. I know that they want it. I know they want it on the same card as Khabib and Gaethje. I’m just waiting. I’m just waiting to talk to them.”

The fighter would most likely serve as the co-main event of UFC 254, which is headlined by UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov facing UFC interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje.

Poirier, despite not receiving an official offer for the fight, is already in Florida training for the potential bout against Ferguson.

“When the rumbling started, when they started talking about it, I booked the flight. I’m in Florida right now,” Poirier said. “I just got done with wrestling practice a couple of hours ago. I came to Coconut Creek. We’re eight weeks out this week, so better safe than sorry. Dana knows my number. If we get this fight made, I’m already here, training. If not, I fly back to Louisiana and we’ll see what happens.”

UFC 254 is set for Saturday, October 24 from a location to be announced with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
