Dustin Poirier Responds To Conor McGregor’s Post-UFC 264 Claims: “Mentally I Just Feel Like It’s Weak”

Former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier has finally given his perspectives on the aftermath following his first-round TKO victory over Conor McGregor at UFC 264.

Poirier spoke with Boxing legend Teddy Atlas and his co-host Ken Rideout on their podcast THE FIGHT with Teddy Atlas to give his opinions on everything that happened in the fallout of UFC 264. Atlas initially asked him about what he’s made of McGregor’s apparent excuses of being injured prior to the fight and he had this to say about the Irishman’s claims.

“Right off the bat, mentally I just feel like it’s weak,” Poirier said. “It’s excuses, but I’m trying not to read too far into it or go down these days of reading what videos are out and what people are saying because I’m back home with my family. It’s a win on my record, I know I did what I needed to do in the fight, pre-fight, my training camp. I had crossed and checked all the boxes I needed to check, gave it my all, and like we’re saying it’s noise. Whatever people are gonna say or he’s gonna say, it’s just, it is what it is. I’m healthy, I’m safe, I’m back home, have another win on my record, and I’m still the number one contender. Those are facts.”

He continued on to give his thoughts on what happened in the fight itself from his viewpoint, McGregor’s self-promotion tactics after the bout, how the Irish superstar constantly kicking him in the knee might’ve led to his eventual leg break, the latest endeavors of his charity The Good Fight Foundation, and when he potentially could return to face UFC lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira.

“I’m taking it one day at a time,” Poirier said. “I’m not agreeing to anything, not signing any contracts. Just digesting it all, enjoying this with my family. I’m gonna take my family on a vacation, we’re gonna go to Destin, Florida for a week. Sit on the beach and then just relax, spend time, have conversation, put the phones down, get away from the computers, just enjoy each other’s company. Right now, I’m not even worried about fighting.”
