Dustin Poirier Raises $60,000 For Charity After Selling UFC 242 Fight Gear
The plan for Poirier was to auction off fight gear from UFC 242 and a shirt given to him by Nurmagomedov in an effort to raise money for The Good Fight Foundation, which is teaming with Justin Wren’s Fight For The Forgotten. The goal for the auction was to raise money to help build water wells in Uganda after a storm took out the water supplies for a storm and school in the area.
Poirier’s auction was a success, as the fighter gave away fight-worn hand wraps, gloves and shorts, plus the Nurmagomedov shirt, and the winning bidder paid $60,200 for everything according to MMA Junkie.
Nurmagomedov had previously held an auction of his own, with Poirier’s shirt as a prize, and that brought in an additional $100,000. UFC President Dana White also matched the $100,000 raised by Nurmagomedov, bringing their total to $200,000. Once that is added to what Poirier raised and another $40,000 brought in through online donations, an approximate total of $300,000 was raised for the charity.
