Dustin Poirier: “I Jumped The Gun” On Conor McGregor & Foundation Beef
Dustin Poirier didn’t want to have any distractions in place heading into his trilogy fight with Conor McGregor.
Recently, it was announced that the trilogy fight between Poirier and McGregor was on. Taking place on July 10 at UFC 264 in Las Vegas, this fight could end up determining the next lightweight title contender. The news comes after McGregor teased that the fight was off.
After a back and forth on social media, it was revealed by Poirier that McGregor had yet to pay and donate the $500,000 he said he would to the Lousiana native’s charity The Good Fight Foundation ahead of their UFC 257 fight. An incensed McGregor would respond, saying the fight was off. Audie Attar, McGregor’s manager also interacted with Poirier. Unlike Khabib Nurmagomedov and Max Holloway, McGregor did not provide funds right after the bout ended.
Cooler heads were able to prevail via the fight announcement. In a recent post on social media, Poirier wanted to clear the air and not make the fight about the charity.
“I am very passionate about my charity as you all know,” Poirier stated. “I jumped the gun and took my private matters between Conor and my foundation public. My mistake, we live, we learn. Spreading positivity and doing good is my goal. I feel like I have brought a negative energy and personal opinions into something I am working so hard on that gives people a reason to cheer and smile. I will take this in stride and continue to fight the good fight! New goal coming soon and it is a big one. Thank you to all who is involved and all the supporters who believe in our vision.”

Poirier is on a two-fight win streak, beating McGregor this past January. Since returning to action in 2018, McGregor is 1-2. UFC 264 is expected to have a full crowd.
