Derrick Lewis Explains Mark Hunt Callout
Derrick Lewis earned his second straight UFC main event win when he defeated Travis Browne by second round knockout at UFC Fight Night 105.
Lewis now has a future opponent in mind and that is former UFC Heavyweight Title challenger Mark Hunt.
“I just wanted one more tough fight before I get to the champ,” Lewis told MMA junkie Radio. “I just want people to notice that I’ve got what it takes to be a champ. And I believe Mark Hunt is one of the toughest guys out there.”
The “Black Beast” has earned a grand total of nine victories under the UFC banner, with those nine wins coming over Jack May, Carlos Augusto Inocente Filho, Ruan Potts, Viktor Pesta, Damian Grabowski, Gabriel Gonzaga, Roy Nelson, Shamil Abdurakhimov and Travis Browne. The UFC veteran is also a former Legacy Fighting Championships Heavyweight Champion, he defeated fellow UFC veteran Jared Rosholt to win the gold in 2012.
Hunt is currently embroiled in a class action lawsuit with the UFC, stemming from the fight he had with former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar at UFC 200. He will be competing next month at UFC 209, where he will be taking on Alistair Overeem in a rematch from their fight in PRIDE.
