Derrick Lewis Doesn’t Want Nurmagomedov Suspended For UFC 229 Brawl, Thinks McGregor Should Retire

Derrick Lewis is back in action at UFC 230, challenging Daniel Cormier for the UFC Heavyweight Title in the main event.

Lewis also competed at UFC 229, where UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov instigated  a brawl against Conor McGregor’s teammates, but Lewis doesn’t think the champion should get suspended for those actions.

“No (Nurmagomedov shouldn’t get suspended),” Lewis said to TMZ. “He really didn’t do anything. He didn’t do nothing, he just jumped in the stands. He didn’t really hit that guy, that guy really started hitting him.”

Nurmagomedov has already seen his purse withheld by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), while other punishments could be coming the fighters way. UFC President Dana White said the champion should be fined and suspended, but not stripped of the lightweight title.

If it were up to Lewis, former two division UFC champion McGregor would hang the gloves up for good.

“I would (retire if I were McGregor),” Lewis said. “He made life-changing money. He really don’t have to fight.”

UFC 230 takes place on Saturday, November 3 from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with Daniel Cormier and Derrick lewis headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
