Derek Brunson Didn’t Expect To Get Anderson Silva Fight
Derek Brunson is coming off of a brutal knockout loss to Robert Whittaker in the main event of UFC Fight Night 101. Brunson will now be fighting former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva next month at UFC 208, a fight that Brunson wasn’t considering after the embarrassing defeat.
“I was expecting a little lesser name,” Brunson said on The MMA Hour. ”But a fight is a fight.”
Despite the fact that Brunson thought he would fight someone else, he still accepted the fight with Silva in a quick fashion.
“I said yes right away,” Brunson said. “It was kind of one of those things with Anderson, who I always wanted to fight, he was so great, and had this reputation for beating everybody. Obviously he’s one of best fighters of all-time so to fight him will definitely be an honor.”
Silva himself hasn’t competed since suffering a unanimous decision defeat to current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier, Silva accepted the fight on less than three day’s notice.
UFC 208 takes place on Saturday, February 4 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York with Holly Holm and Germaine De Randamie headlining.
