Darren Till Says Tyron Woodley Wasn’t The Fighter Everybody Knew At UFC 235
Tyron Woodley competed in the co-main event of UFC 235, losing the UFC Welterweight Title to Kamaru Usman by unanimous decision.
Darren Till is a former opponent of Woodley’s and he says the former champion wasn’t the fighter everybody knew at UFC 235.
“I know when he was fighting me, he was scared,” Till said to MMA Junkie. “When you’re fighting a guy like me, you have to be scared. You know what I bring to the table. And he said that openly. I could feel fear, but that fear drove him on. He was so powerful and quick and aggressive. As much as Usman looked so, so good in there like a top-level fighter, Woodley just didn’t seem like the same Woodley as we’ve seen previously. And he’ll still go down as one of the best ever. He just didn’t seem like the guy we knew. And that’s not to take anything away from Usman. He perfected that strategy. But it was a weird fight.”
Woodley and Till collided in the main event of UFC 228, with Woodley successfully defending the welterweight title via second round submission.
Till says that if a rematch against Woodley were offered at the same time as a title shot, expect the rematch to happen.
“If you said to me, ‘What would you prefer: title shot or a rematch?’ I’d want the rematch,” Till said. “I just want to avenge that one loss and prove I’m better than him.”
UFC Fight Night London takes place on Saturday, March 16 from the 02 Arena in London, England with Darren Till and Jorge Masvidal headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
