Daniel Cormier Was Disappointed That The Fight With Brock Lesnar Didn’t Happen

Cormier was looking forward to the fight with Lesnar but understands that Lesnar makes the best choice for himself and his family.

Former WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar came face-to-face with the current UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier at the conclusion of UFC 226 in July of 2018. Reports and speculation made the rounds in the months following that encounter regarding a potential fight between Lesnar and Cormier. As possible dates and months began to be tossed around, UFC President Dana White announced that Lesnar decided to retire from MMA and that announcement came shortly after Lesnar dropped the Universal Title to Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 35.

Daniel Cormier was disappointed that the planned fight fell through but stated that he can not worry about something that is out of his control.

“I was disappointed.” Cormier told TMZ Sports. “I wanted to fight Brock. I’ve known Brock for a long time. I competed with Brock for a long time in wrestling and I’ve always been a fan of his and we had that great moment at UFC 226 so the build was gonna be fun, but you know, you can only really worry about things that you can control. I can’t control that he doesn’t want to fight anymore. He’s done.”

Cormier gave credit to the UFC and Brock Lesnar for trying to make the fight happen. He added that while he appreciates the effort, things do not always go as planned.

“I know the UFC and Brock tried to make this happen. It just didn’t, so I appreciate all parties involved trying to get it done but, [it] just didn’t work. Things don’t always go as you wished they do.” Cormier said.

The 22-1-0 Daniel Cormier gave his take on why Brock Lesnar and UFC couldn’t reach an agreement. He feels that WWE simply takes care of Lesnar and that Brock will always make the right decision that will benefit him and his family first and Cormier does not fault Lesnar for that.

“I don’t know exactly what it was.” Cormier said. “Honestly I just think WWE gave him such a great deal. They really always take care of this guy and ultimately, you get paid that much money to go and wrestle as opposed to fighting me, there’s no predetermined outcome there. I’m gonna try to kick your ass so, I think he made the smart decision.” Cormier laughed. “But he always does. Brock always does what’s best for Brock and his family and you can’t fault a guy for doing that.”

Brock Lesnar made his return to WWE at the Money In The Bank pay-per-view where he obtained the Money In The Bank briefcase.
