Daniel Cormier Wants The UFC To Save, Not Cut Jon Jones

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones was arrested last week, getting charged with aggravated DWI, negligent use of a firearm, possession of an open container, and driving with no proof of insurance.

Former two division UFC champion Daniel Cormier doesn’t think that the UFC should cut Jones for his latest legal snafu, but DC believes the promotion should save the champion instead.

“I don’t think the UFC should cut him. I think if the UFC cuts Jones because he was like 21 when he started there and was a champion at 23, so for 10 years he has been the champion,” Cormier said on DC & Helwani On ESPN (via Cole Shelton of BJPenn.com). “We talk about when people start to not need all that stuff from you anymore then what happens? I think that just expedites it. If the UFC cuts him he may go down a path that you may wake up one morning and see news of something very, very bad happening to this dude. I don’t think the UFC should cut him, I think the UFC needs to save him. Keep him but then really try to help him get better.”

Cormier and Jones have been rivals for years now, with the duo clashing twice before at UFC 182 and UFC 214.

The UFC has issued one statement on Jones latest arrest, saying they are gathering evidence on what went down, but nothing has been stated since then.
