Daniel Cormier Tested Positive For COVID-19 Weeks Before UFC 252
Danile Cormier fought off COVID-19 before stepping foot in the Octagon against Stipe Miocic.
Former two-division UFC champion Cormier suffered a unanimous decision loss to UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 252. A few weeks before UFC 252, however, it was Cormier who tested positive for COVID-19.
“The ring didn’t tell me I had COVID,” Cormier told Yahoo Sports. “But the ring told me that something wasn’t right, and I used the information to make a decision to go see the doctor. I found out then that I had COVID, but the information I got from the ring allowed me to make the fight.“
Cormier did pass all COVID-19 related tests on the week of the fight, which turned out to be the final bout of his professional MMA career. The retired fight says that even though he tested positive for COVID-19 leading into UFC 252, it did not play a factor in his loss to Miocic.
“This is not an excuse at all. Miocic won the fight and he fought beautifully,” Cormier said. “This is a thank you almost to Oura for allowing me to get to the fight. I might have just kept pushing and not known I had it. But I was able to take care of myself properly and then get back into training and compete for the heavyweight championship of the world.”
DC is still a part of the UFC, but as a color commentator for UFC events.
