Daniel Cormier Says Stipe Miocic Isn’t Good Enough To Beat Him

UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier is defending the gold against former UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic in a rematch at UFC 241.

If there is one thing that Cormier believes, it is that Miocic isn’t good enough to beat him in their rematch.

“When I was getting ready to fight with Lesnar and Stipe was just kind of putting up those random pictures of him punching me, I just was like, obviously I got the last punch, like five or six,” Cormier said at the UFC summer press conference (via Alexander K. Lee of MMA Fighting). “I understand that he’s going to be better, but I just, when I think about the fight and the little bit of time that we fought before, I just don’t think he’s good enough to beat me. I just don’t. I think he’s a good champion, I think he’s a good fighter, I just don’t think he’s good enough to beat me and whether it’s 25 minutes or two rounds, I’m still gonna win the fight.”

DC and Miocic met for the first time at UFC 226, with Cormier scoring a first round knockout to win the UFC Heavyweight Title.

Cormier says when he and Miocic clash at UFC 241, it is going to end with a similar result to that of UFC 226.

“I’ve always said the guy did some great things when he fought and defended the heavyweight title so he would get a rematch if I didn’t get to fight Brock,” Cormier said. “Now, would I have preferred to see him fight again since the last time? Yes. But he didn’t choose to fight for the last year and it paid off for him and he gets a rematch. He gets a chance to fight me again and it’s gonna be the same result.”

UFC 241 takes place on Saturday, August 17 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California with Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
