Dana White Wants To Get On The Same Page With Justin Gaethje
Former WSOF Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje has spoken out multiple times against the UFC in the past, most notably when former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor was booked against Donald Cerrone in the main event of UFC 246.
UFC President Dana White wants to clear the air and get on the same page with the seemingly disgruntled fighter, as White wants to have a meeting with Gaethje in the near future.
“There’s been all this, ‘What about Justin Gaethje’ stuff. The reality is, me and Justin Gaethje need to sit down and talk face to face and have a meeting,” White said at the UFC 246 post-fight press conference (via Farah Hannoun of MMA Junkie). “So, we’ll probably do that in the next few weeks and sit down with him. I like Gaethje. Gaethje’s a great kid, and he’s a super talented guy, and he and I need to get on the same page.”
The pair have not always seen eye to eye, as White previously stated that Gaethje has turned down multiple fights in the past, which is something the fighter argued against.
Gaethje has been vocal about getting a shot at the UFC Lightweight Title, which champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is defending against Tony Ferguson at UFC 249. However, it could be a long wait for that title shot, as McGregor is expected to get the next opportunity after his win at UFC 246.
There has been no word yet from Gaethje as to whether or not he plans on having a meeting with White in the coming weeks.
