Dana White Reacts To Spencer Fisher’s Brain Trauma: “Not The First And Won’t Be The Last”

Mixed Martial Arts is not for the faint of heart and unfortunately sometimes has permanent repercussions.

17-fight UFC veteran Spencer Fisher went in-depth on how fighting has taken a permanent toll on his mind and body when he recently spoke to MMA Fighting:

“I forget where I’m going, depression, dizzy spells, calling people different names, not knowing their actual names,” Fisher explained. “My kids, I’ve had instances where I couldn’t think of their names on the spot. My balance is shot. I have a hard time remembering what I did yesterday. Last week is a complete blur.”

“I gotta support a family who understands my condition and tries to help me out the best they can,” Fisher continued. “I don’t want to die alone and not know anybody when I see them. I don’t want to go out of this world not knowing people I love, or not knowing new people.”

The story caught the attention of UFC President Dana White, who commented on the unfortunate news when speaking to MMA Junkie’s John Morgan:

“He’s not the first and he’s definitely not going to be the last.” said White. “This is a contact sport and anybody who’s ever done this younger, myself included, is dealing with brain issues. It’s part of the gig.”

“We’ve been invested in this Ruvo Center (for Brain Health) to find out more… This thing came out on Real Sports about psychedelics and we’ve actually reached out to the John Hopkins guys and we’re diving into that.”
