Dana White Shocked By Donald Cerrone Joining MMAAA
Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez, former UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw, former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre and current UFC fighter Tim Kennedy are four of the five fighters that make up the initial board for the Mixed Martial Arts Athletic Association (MMAAA). But one fighter in particular that UFC President Dana White is shocked to see on the board — Donald Cerrone.
“I’m a little shocked, I’ll tell you this, that Cowboy Cerrone didn’t give me a call,” White said on the UFC Unfiltered podcast. “(Cerrone) only main evented, headlined like three fights, Fight Nights. Never held the title in the WEC; never held the title in the UFC. And a couple years ago, he was on his boat. He gets into a beef with a guy on another boat. He’s in big trouble. Who does he call? He calls me. What do I do? I go out and find him the best criminal defense lawyer. And I spent over $100,000 of my own money. So when I see Cowboy standing up there, really? Never heard a word from Cowboy, but whatever, it’s all good. He’s a big boy, he can do what he wants to do.”
Cerrone’s next appearance in the octagon will be taking place this weekend at UFC 206, where he is taking on Matt Brown in the co-main event of the card. Cerrone said in a recent interview that he and Dana White will go out to dinner soon and discuss the situation.
UFC 206 takes place on Saturday, December 10 from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis headlining.
