Dana White Says Woodley vs. Lawler II Is Likely

UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley successfully defended the gold against Demian Maia in the co-main event of UFC 214.

As for what's next for the champion, the UFC President says it may be a rematch with former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler.

“Right now, off the top of my head, I would say Robbie Lawler (is next for Woodley),” White said at the UFC 214 post-fight press conference. “He’s not getting the ‘GSP’ fight, but obviously Robbie Lawler’s a great fight, too.”

Lawler also competed at UFC 214 and picked up a unanimous decision win over Donald Cerrone.

While some found the decision victory for Lawler to be a controversial one, the UFC President felt that Lawler did win the fight.

“I had it one to one going into the third, and I gave the third to Robbie,” White said. “I just thought that third round, Lawler was pushing forward, he was throwing tons of punches, he was in his face the whole time. I thought he did more in the third.”

Woodley did defeat Lawler in their first meeting at UFC 201, there is no time frame for when the potential rematch will take place.
